[4] A STUDY OF STYLISTIC DEVICES IN “ROMEO AND JULIET” BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE AND IN THEIR VIETNAMESE EQUIVALENTS TRANSLATED BY THAI BA TAN
The love of Romeo and Juliet in the masterpiece “Romeo and Juliet” by the greatest playwright William Shakespeare is considered as one of the most beautiful and grievous love stories in English literature. Also, feeling the fantastic beauty as well as high spirit manifested through “Romeo and Juliet”, Thai Ba Tan – a Vietnamese author has created “Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet” translated from the original of Shakespeare to sing the praise of some characters and their love through good time and bad time. And it is no doubt that stylistic devices have made a contribution to the success of “Romeo and Juliet” and its Vietnamese version as they have portrayed clearly and gently the messages of the love couple as well as of the authors. Consequently, this thesis mainly aims at examining stylistic features of typically used stylistic devices in “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare and in its Vietnamese translational equivalents “Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet” translated by Thai Ba Tan. The methods mainly used in the study are qualitative combined approaches which include the descriptive, contrastive analysis methods. The data for analysis in this thesis are 354 samples which are quoted, described and analysed on stylistic aspects. As a result, they showed the similarities and differences of some stylistic devices named metaphor, simile, metonymy and repetition used in Shakespeare’s work and Thai Ba Tan’s one. The findings also aim at suggesting some implications for the teaching and learning English in Vietnam.

[10] AN INVESTIGATION INTO STYLISTIC DEVICES IN “PERFECT SPY” BY LARRY BERMAN AND THEIR VIETNAMESE TRANSLATIONAL EQUIVALENTS
Literature has always played an important role in human lives and societies in all time. Literature represents the very action of reading. From reading people can form ideas, knowledge and ideologies about the world where they live. Through literary works, readers can understand and grasp the history, human experiences, and etc. This thesis is carried out to investigate the stylistic devices used in “Perfect Spy” by Larry Berman and how they are translated into Vietnamese in terms of translation methods. Moreover, in order to avoid misunderstanding as well as confusion, we have to list, describe and analyze the stylistic devices in “Perfect Spy” by Larry Berman and their Vietnamese translational equivalents. The data for analysis is taken from 197 samples in English and 197 samples in Vietnamese. Especially, after studying the findings of thesis, we recognize that with using a great deal of stylistic devices in a story, the author can express what he wants to describe and compare. Besides, stylistic devices make the story more interesting and lively and help the author get the reader’s attention. Furthermore, we also recognize that due to differences and varieties between two languages, the loss and gain phenomenon is unavoidable. As a consequence, this research will help learners as well as readers have more awareness of stylistic devices in an English story. In particular, they can have more knowledge and experiences in reading and translating stylistic devices from English into Vietnamese of a story.
