| [1] A CONTRASTIVE STUDY OF RHETORICAL DEVICES IN CHILDREN’S SONGS IN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE | This thesis is designed to study the rhetorical devices in children‟s songs in English versus Vietnamese by means of descriptive and comparative methods. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis are conducted basing on the investigation of a corpus of 500 rhetorical devices (250 in each language) taken from 20th- century children‟s songs in both English and Vietnamese. These children‟s songs are mainly collected from books for children under the age of 16 and school music textbooks for children from class 1 to class 9. On the basis of contrastive analysis, this thesis is carried out to find out the similarities and differences in terms of rhetorical devices in children‟s songs in English and Vietnamese, namely lexical rhetorical devices (metaphor, metonymy, simile, personification) and phonetic rhetorical device (repetition). The study found that of all five rhetorical devices analyzed in the thesis, Repetition (phonetic rhetorical device) is by far the most popular one in both English and Vietnamese songs for children. As far as lexical rhetorical devices are concerned, all four lexical rhetorical devices are used more commonly in Vietnamese children‟s songs than in English ones, with the highest one belonging to Metaphor. With an eye to partly contributing to better teaching and learning English as a foreign language, specifically to the awareness of learners and composers in writing children‟s songs, some implications and ideas are also included. | Nhà XB: ĐHNN | NXB: 2016 | Ký hiệu: 781.8 NG-A | Chủ biên: | Tác giả: Nguyễn Đỗ Hà Anh | Ngày: 08/03/2017 | Quy cách: 88tr. : ill; 30cm | Còn lại: 1/1 | Chỉ đọc | Từ khóa: CONTRASTIVE STUDY, RHETORICAL DEVICES, CHILDREN’S SONGS | Đối tượng mượn: Giảng viên; Học viên học ngoại ngữ; Học viên SĐH; Sinh viên | | |
| | [2] A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS
OF INTERVIEWS IN SPORT
IN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE | This study aims at conducting a discourse analysis of interviews in
sports in English and Vietnamese in order to discover some typical discourse
features and then find out the similarities and differences in terms of the
layout, lexical features, syntactic features and cohesive devices between these
two kinds of sport interviews. The study is carried out based on the theories of
discourse analysis and a combination of a variety of methods such as
qualitative, quantitative, descriptive and contrastive analysis. 100 samples of
sport interviews in English and 100 samples of sport interviews in
Vietnamese were collected from the internet for recent years. The findings
showed that along with some similarities, there were a number of noticeable
differences. In terms of the layout, EIS and VIS share a similar layout which
consists of headline, introduction, body and conclusion. In terms of lexical
features, EIS uses the attributive adjectives commonly while VIS prefers to
use the borrowing words frequently. With regard to the syntactic features,
reported speech and common structures are investigated respectively. Finally,
cohesive devices reveals reference, repetition and conjunction are the
prominent devices used in both English and Vietnamese sport interviews.
Based on the findings, the thesis presented some implications and suggestions
for learning and teaching in English. It is hoped that the results of the thesis
are useful for those who are interested in sport interviews | | NXB: 2015 | Ký hiệu: 420.8 LÊ-T | Chủ biên: | Tác giả: Lê Thị Tâm | Ngày: 05/01/2016 | Quy cách: 120tr. : mh; 30cm | Còn lại: 1/1 | Chỉ đọc | Từ khóa: A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

| | [7] AN INVESTIGATION INTO COLLOCATIONAL
ERRORS IN WRITING OF SECOND-YEAR STUDENTS
AT UNIVERSITY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE STUDIES,
UNIVERSITY OF DANANG | Collocations are one of the areas generally considered problematic for
EFL learners. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to investigate the
collocational errors in EFL university students’ writing in Vietnam. A total of
100 sophomores at University of Foreign Language Studies, University of
Danang participated in this study. A hundred assignments and a hundred inclass
practice were collected and analyzed for collocational errors. The
unacceptable grammatical and lexical collcational errors were identified based
on the modified version originally proposed by Benson, et al. [6] and Chen’s
[16] modified version. The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary [52], the
Oxford Collocations Dictionary for Students of English [53], and the British
National Corpus were employed to analyze participants’ collocational errors
and to provide suggestions for correction. A total of 376 collocational errors
(223 grammatical collcational errors and 153 lexical collocational errors)
were found. Results indicated that G8 (D) (V + Prep + O/ V + O + Prep + O)
and L1 (V + N) errors occurred most frequently in the participants’ writing
and L5 (Adv + Adj) were the least occurring errors. Ignorance of rule
restrictions was the major source of collocational errors. Depending on the
findings of this paper, it is suggested that further study may have larger
number of participants such as all sophomores in the Department of English,
other academic levels students in the Department of English or in other
departments to gain a clear picture of EFL learners’ collocational errors. | | NXB: 2015 | Ký hiệu: 420.8 LÊ-H | Chủ biên: | Tác giả: Lê Thị Thanh Hằng | Ngày: 05/01/2016 | Quy cách: 94tr. : mh; 30cm | Còn lại: 1/1 | Chỉ đọc | Từ khóa: LÊ THỊ THANH HẰNG, AN INVESTIGATION INTO COLLOCATIONAL
